Case Study A – Managing Sleep as an Executive
Profile
- Name: Ashley
- Age: 61
- Occupation: CFO of an
International Bank
- Location: Japan
(originally from Australia)
- Issue: Chronic lack
of sleep
Background
Ashley
was experiencing chronic lack of sleep, for what it seemed to be due to stress
and burnout due to the intense demands of the role. Due to the lack of sleep
their health and personal life were suffering, and was looking to improve
sleep.
Ashley found difficult to find time to work on sleep and wellbeing.
Bespoke Approach
1. In-depth Assessment:
Identified best times and days to meet, and regularity. Over the period of few
sessions a detailed assessment of personal history (from childhood), sleep,
current life, goals and values was done.
2. Therapy Sessions:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for insomnia was started to support Ashley
to improve the sleep. We used imagery to support Ashley to come to terms with
past events that continue to think about every so often.
3. Resilience Based CBT:
We used this to build on skills to improve the here and now.
4. Work-Life Balance:
Once Ashley slept better and came to terms with some old events, it was easy to
reclaim the work-life balance that had left behind.
Outcome
Ashley experienced a significant improvement in
sleep and this was seen by close family and friends. The work performance also
improved.
