Jaime G. Miralles Online Therapist: CBT and EMDR
Many people don’t
realise that CBT is not just for those diagnosed as having a mental illness
such as depression, anxiety disorder, eating disorder. In the past, lots of
people thought that CBT could only be offered by a psychologists, to people
with diagnosed disorders, such as OCD. Today’s CBT Therapist hava
a different range of qualification and can also provide therapy to patients
using a combination of CBT and other psychological
approaches. You can read on my approaches to therapy in more
detail.
What about
CBT?
CBT
also known as cognitive behavioural therapy, is a type of psychotherapy that
emphasizes the relationship between cognitions and emotions. It is a form of
behavioural therapy based on the idea that thoughts influence feelings and
behaviours.
While
CBT can be used to treat a variety of mental disorders, including phobias,
depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and schizophrenia,
its core focus is on how thoughts influence emotions, feelings, and behaviours.
However,
online CBT, can be a powerful psychotherapy used for day-to-day difficulties.
Such as jealousy, anger, sports performance, work performance, weight management,
interpersonal difficulties and many other individual needs, and day to day
challenges. As online CBT aims to change unhelpful patterns of behaviours by
challenging thoughts, it is a great tool to overcome day to day difficulties.
Due to the transferability of the skills and the knowledge, any work we on an
specific subject, could be related to other areas of your life. Hence, by
evaluating thoughts, beliefs, and their impact on emotions, behaviours, and
ability to deal with problems in the outside world, you can take this to any
areas you would like to improve.
With
CBT, people can learn how to identify negative or irrational thoughts that may
be causing problems, and to develop more helpful or realistic ways of thinking.
With practice, they can then make changes to their behaviours that contribute
to their mental and physical health.
How do I
start online therapy?
Many
people turn to online therapy when they struggle to find a therapist that works
for them, need the flexibility of using it where ever they are, or reside in an
area that have no specialist therapist. Online therapy allows you to work with
a counsellor from the comfort of your own home, office, hotel, business trip at
a time that suits you.
When
most people think of online therapy, they imagine a Skype conversation or a
video call. While online therapy isn’t always face to face, it can also be
audio-only.
- Online
therapy is great for people who live far from a therapy centre or who
can’t make it to appointments weekly due to work/family commitments.
- It
offers all the benefits of talking to an experienced therapist without
waiting rooms, queues or parking charges.
- An
online therapist can give people control over their therapy, making it
feel more like their own choice.
- It has
become increasingly accessible, with a growing number of professionals
, like
myself, offering psychotherapy and online CBT.
How do I
choose an online therapist?
A
good therapist is someone you can trust, someone who will listen without
judgment, and someone who will advocate for you. Whether you’re dealing with a
major life crisis, or just looking for support, a good therapist can help you
navigate challenges, overcome obstacles, and improve the quality of your life.
If you can’t get a therapist online therapy can be a good option.
